Great Sundarban

Tiger sightings have become quite rare these days in India, reason being the Tiger killings because of its multitude of medicinal or magical properties that is why tiger trade is very profitable. Genuinely the tiger skin is not fashionable but the smuggling of Tiger fur coats and rugs are not difficult for the impoverished hunters. Even after the bans made by the government warning not to gather even wood from the former hunting grounds, poaching of tigers continue.

Tiger is the guard of Archaeological Resource:  Statue of Mahishmardini found in Batakatir forest, Terrakota of pre-Maurya era found in Bijara, pieces of stone, Terrakota seal and lots of archaeological elements found in Chaimari. Certificate from the Centre for Archaeological Studies and Training (C.A.S.T.) of India has supported the fact of the ancientness about those elements. Elements found  from the recent digging work at Tilpi and Dhosa by Archaeological Survey Department of West Bengal has point out Sundarban as the golden ground of ancient civilization. Archaeological-dacoits has stolen many of those elements but in the deep forest lots of archaeological elements remains safe for the terror of tigers. Only Government efforts can open the unknown chapter of untouched archaeological history.
